V6 Engine whistle
« on: 17 December 2011, 14:25:26 »

I have a whistling on my 2.5 V6 on start up. Disapears after a couple of minutes.

I cannot tell if it is alternator, a/c pump or PAS. Or indeed something else!

Is there a common problem here?

Thanks

Its SAI (Secondary Air Injection) - only fitted to meet emissions targets when cold. Either pull fuse or unplug it  :y

Mine has been doing this for a few months now.
Does it do any harm?

Thanks for that. So give me a clue where the device is, or what it looks like! Or which fuse is it??

Many thanks

Located under the front nearside wing.  Access under shit shield from wheelarch, easily disconnected from multiplug.  Only needs the shitshield being prised down a tad to get a torch/hand in and see whats what.

Its only purpose was to reduce emmissions at startup, hence only runs for first 30 seconds or so.

Or replace unit with a new one - but thats expensive!!

Thanks hotel21. Rather than grovel about at this time, I thought I would just pull the fuse. Had a look in the handbook, and nothing obvious. Certainly in the main fuse box. Is it is the fuse box in the engine compartment? If so, I do not know what they all are.
