Hi all can any one recomend a good drill bit  to remove a bolt that has sear off being trying with a hss or tit coverd one but no joy help

Drill a pilot hole in the bolt then use a easy out

Cobalt drill are good, but they are best used in a pillar drill rather than a hand held drill. They're very hard so do easily snap if they snag.

its the bolt that hols the metal pipe in place under theromastat
houseing. been try all day just keeps blunting drill bits

Oh mate thats got to be one of the worst bolts to snap its such a t**t to get at.  Try what Andy b say cobalt drill or left handed drill bit and do as tigers said see is if you can drill it with a small bit first as a pilot hole and then get a bigger bit in there and hope it starts to come out.....Once you get it out mate mite be worth runing a tap down it if you can get at it.  Good luck mate.

With Steel, there is a very fine line between pressure and speed.  Ideally, moderate pressure, slow speed.

If you spin the drill at high RPM, it will kill the bit in seconds.

Either use a Battery drill or ideally an Air-Drill with a regulator on the air-line.  Adjust the regulator until the drill spins nice and slow.


It wont hurt to spray shed loads of lubricant on the point you are drilling..... do this often.

Oh dear!
You have learned the hard way why we all call it the B*stard bolt! 
All have got it right though - all you can do is to start with a small drill and work your way up until you can get an easyout into it and then give it a good soak with Plusgas or WD and gently try it until it gives.
When you put the new one in giver it a good coat of Coppaslip!!!!!!

OP's got a TD, isn't it different, e.g. no B-bolt on it  :-/
