hi .. sorry if this has been covered .. please point me to the post if poss. ive searched but got no results.
i need some help as the manual is vague. i normally carry out minor service jobs myself .. but ..
2years ago after (9months after purchase) the water pump seized (clatter) and the bill came to just short of £900 for a
rebuild and new timing belt ! we drove from the garage happy cause we really were relying on the car at the time.
to be honest this motor has been the worst weve ever had. it generally gets light use so it comes as a blow when the engine
keeps konking out. scared to drive it.
well friday .. almost 2years to the day we were going to the local shops ... well we thought we were ... and the belt has given up
again! so its stuck in the road once more. under 10k miles --- what to do? ---- a long think :-/
i had a look today Sunday .. and just couldnt fathom out what to undo to slacken that aux belt. i tried to get the timing belt
cover off but leaving the aux belt on .. and managed to crack the cover at the top. the aux belt has to come off i guess.
ive done this before with our last Cav 16v ecotec engine that had the engine crammed in sidewise and i never had this bother?
ive also done a cam belt change on a 8v cav in about 25mins .. so this oh-mega is a dog.
the handbook says something about the drivebelt arm tensioner indicator? wherever that is? im worried i may undo the wrong thing.
on the 2.5 version it shows a sprung loaded pulley .. so im not sure what im up to. can anyone guide me.
ive had some friends views on the situation .. and we all agree the handbook can be unclear at times.
thanks for any help. russ
