Pioneer - DEH-P85BT - No Sound?
« on: 02 December 2007, 09:58:07 »

Can any one help?

I have recently purchased a Pioneer - DEH-P85BT head unit from www.audio66.com
I 'test fitted' the unit to check that all would work before I set about the task of drilling holes for the ipod / bluetooth connections but I had no sound?
Checked all connections and all seem fine.
I then re fitted the kenwood unit that came with the car and that worked fine.
Spoke to Andy at Audio66 explaned all to him so he spoke to Pioneer Technical support who said that newer head units are fitted with a speaker ground detection circuit - (basically if the head unit detects that a speaker wire is going to ground it cuts off the amp, so no sound)

Just to make sure they sent me a replacment unit which i fitted again and still no sound!!

Are the speakers on the Omega wired to ground/earth?

 :question

Thanks in advance

no, they are not.

but yours originally would have had a Philips amp fitted - no telling what someone has done to remove that.

Basically, what your car audio specialist is saying is that one of your speakers could have shorted, or rather, the WIRING for one, or more of the speakers could have shorted against perhaps the bodywork/chassis).

Just about all modern headunits cut out if there is a short/fault detected somewhere. Could be your kenwood isn't a succeptible? As 'the boy' mentioned, you will have to trace the wiring to check everything is connected properly and securely.

The easiest starting point would probably be to reinstall your Kenwood, carefully check round your car to ascertain whether EVERY single speaker is working. The other way to do this of course is to place a 9v battery over each speaker terminal and you should hear a click/pop from each, this will tell you whether crucially, every speaker is working.

'The Boy' mentioned the amp which would have originally been fitted to your car, Check, check and check again the quality of the wiring/conversion if it has/has not been removed (under the parcel shelf). Most have been butchered at some point, of which we can only guess!

Have a check and report back.  :y

I have the (lower spec but same family) DEH-P55BT (and steering wheel and display interface)
When I installed that (from orginal stereo, all I had to do was reverse the live and switched live wires (as per normal with Vauxhall)
everything else just worked fine.
