aftermarket Stereo
« on: 06 January 2008, 11:59:00 »

Hi everyone, I am new here,

My question is,, I have just fitted an aftermarket dvd player for my omega elite, which is a 1996 and had  the Philips sc804 sound system.

After fitting stereo it fired up just fine but there is no sound?
I tried my daughters dvd and it did the same thing fires up but no sound.
I know my system does work as it is ok in my daughters corsa.

So is there an amplifier fitted or wiring thing i will need to fix on this,
Or do i need a special lead. my old system did not have steering wheel controls.
Please help because this old man still like to listen too and misses Satriani whilst driving.
thanx again an no doubt i will need further advice for other things :y :y :y :y

Hi and welcome to the site. :)

You have guesed correctly, there is indeed a small amp in the system.
It sits behind the spare wheel in the boot.

This will need to be bypassed to allow your new system to work.

Problem is, I can't remember how you bypass it right now!  :-[

if you can locate the amp then you should be able to find the connector block for the amp as well......

This is the way i have seen it done in the past, i can't say that this is the most effcient but it worked.

On the multiplug there will be a red/power, black/Earth and Blue/Remote switch on, these need to be capped off...

The remainding cables are all speaker cables, all you have to do now is join the respective colours together, this will complete the connection and allow your aftermarket system to work using its own built in amp

Hope that helps

Hi Pete, what did you have to do exactly, coz i am lost with this?
i have found the amp and disconnected it, but how did you sort out wiring? i have found the wires for the speakers but only12? my car has six major speakers plus two tweeters, my stereo also had on dash display, now the connector in the boot just does not have enough speaker wires
Many thanx

hi first thing i done was strip all the cables out of the connector plug then there are three wires which aren't speaker wires they should be quite obvious. red, black and orange if i remember corectly, these need capping off

yours may be different but if there is another cable of the same colour then they are speaker cables and need joining together

all i done was joined the matching speaker cables together in a connection block.

in my car the tweeters are connected to the front speakers so only one cable is needed.

also i had a couple that had three the same colour so i joined these all together.

hope this helped
