MID on last legs...repair or replace?

The MID on mine appears to be losing pixels by the hour - but i've only had it 8 hours!  When I picked it up, it was readable.  By the time i got home, i get about 4 pixels/character.  Can they be repaired, or is it a case of finding a replacement (which I gather from the FAQ are car dependant)?

I'm guessing this is a pre 98 MID, with a yellow and a black connector.  They are prone to it.  You can temporarily get them to work for a few hours by putting a rubber band around the innards to press ribbon onto pcb a bit more....

May as well replace it mate, I'm getting one from an elite next weekend...£30 delivered if you want it...95 Omega will have black/yellow connector on the back...

Will it not be different calibration from mine (reading the bit from the FAQ section) - or is it just the display part?  Mine's a 2.0 16v auto

Don`t throw the old one away -
If it is destined for the bin, I will gladly send a courier over to collect it.  Its on my list of "curisoity" items that I would like to have a play with at sometime

I thought it was effectively just a display part...but someone more knowledgable will be able to confirm either way :)

Dave - it's yours when i change it.  Whilst you're on - what wiring change does one have to do to stop my aftermarket stereo losing battery power with the ignition off - something about swapping 2 wires on the DIN?

correct! earlier type must be from same car (ie omega), with same engine and gearbox.

later types are more fussy ;D

12v and switched 12v need to be swapped

If you have an aftermarket radio, you will usually find bullet connectors on the red and yellow leads - ignition and permanent lives and it is these two that need to be swapped over. :y
