Just looking through options for Christmas ideas and came across this:Pure Highway DAB ..it looks like it works off existing stereo in car and picks up DAB quality.
Anybody used this or has any comments...as thinking about putting on Santas list...to me from me.

It takes a DAB signal and re-transmits it as FM to your current radio, so it's not going to be better quality (not that DAB can deliver higher quality than FM anyway!).

I can't see the point unless there's a DAB station you particularly want to listen to. Even then a DAB head unit and proper external antenna would be much better and less easy to nick.

I agree totally with kevin, can`t quite see the point of it.

All the benefits of DAB are instantly lost by the use of a less than poor built in fm transmitter

lol.....not that DAB can get anywhere near FM quality anyway!

If you want DAB stations then its a reasonable option!

Whilst we are discussing DAB, To anyone out there in the know:

What are the differences expected from DAB2 (?) / DAB+ (?) when its launched (2011?) - can anyone confirm what I have heard that the current range of DAB receivers are not going to be compatable, and that the DAB we know so far is going to be phased out  (already?) in favour of the new system.

I can only get a few rumours and stories from the manufacturers, but would be interesting to hear if anyone else has heard similar?

Use a Freeview PVR then copy them to MD and do that - (6 Music HM show)

Quite simply....DAB2 uses a different encoding system (AAC) when compared to DAB (MP2) and is as a result is more efficient in its use of bandwidth. And the less bandwidth used, the more channle s can be SOLD in the available spectrum!

Despite DAB's UEP (Unequal Error Protection), the setup (thought of in the 80's) is not as good from a quality persepctive as AAC

Now, in most cases the decoding will be done in a DSP (possibly embedded in a hybrid) so a new player should be able to support both if designed like this from the outset.

What is sure is that existing DAB units wont be able to play back later AAC based signals as the two ae a totlay different encoding system with very different error correction setups!
