We use low level line boosters for driving amplifiers a little harder than they need to be, and as they are fully adjustable (rca in / rca out) I wondered if one of these in line with the telematics signal would boost it up to an acceptable level ?

Will get a picture and some details on my website in the next few hours so you can see what I am on about

Sounds good, it's only a single channel that's involved with the phone input to the HU.

This is what I was thinking of

http://www.dndservices.co.uk/pc9-460.html

one side could be used to adjust telematics, the other the phone as the gain controls are indepandant

Looks good. Not sure what level the Head Unit is expecting to be honest?

I know the Siemens units are easily damaged hence the matching transformers on the telemute lead.

Remember that you are only putting asmall voltage in, so the voltage out is also going to be a lot lower than the unit can give when used for its correct application
