Have to put code in everytime
« on: 07 June 2009, 19:21:30 »

Any idea's what this is, I have to put the code in my stereo everytime I start the car, I cant turn ignition off and it'll turn on fine but if I take the key out I have to put the code in again. Stereo works fine when on too.

Sounds like it's lost the permanent live feed somewhere.  You might have to whip it out and take a look at the back of it.

What about all the fuses. Just had a quick look at Haynes wiring diags and not found anything, but there must be more than one feed for the radio beacuse it'll turn on for an hour without the ignition. Going back years ...... my Senator lost one of it's 12v feeds and, amongst other things, the radio would only play for an hour due to the rear fag lighter having a short (5 pence is a lovely fit in there  :-?) so it popped a fuse.
So as RichardH says look for a missing feed/blown fuse  :y

Has this only just started to happen, or has it always done this?

Always has done it, well only when a genuine Vauxhall stereo was put in.

If I understand correctly then, I assume then that it had a different stereo in originally, and a genuine stereo has been put in to make the car back to original.

If so, the wiring modification of swapping the Permanent live and Ignition live over for making an aftermarket stereo function correctly needs to be undone, and put back to original. Pull the stereo out and have a look at the wiring plug at the back. If there is an ISO adaptor in place, remove it, and if not, see if some wiring alterations have been made near the plug, and if so, the two cables with different colours swapped over should be easy to identify.

Yep, on Vauxhalls it's usually the red and yellow wires that need to be swapped.

Not quite. Red and Yellow are the conventional and popular colours as used by many aftermarket radio manufacturers, Vauxhall use completely different colours for their wiring.
