High beam aim
« on: 15 January 2010, 16:19:49 »

Last night driving in fog along country lanes noticed that the beam aim on both my main beams appeared to be quite high as the fog seemed to give a very clear path of the beam.
Is it possible to adjust the main beam aim on Hids as fitted to an Elite ?

can you not get the aim setup with the adjusters on the left and right off each wing side. to lower them down/?

Thanks for info ,guys.I thought they must be adjustable as I had seen the screws but unsure as Hids.
Any idea of the best way to set.....park a distance from wall and move up /down ??like the older cars, but could do with some measurement guides if available........or is it wiser just to pay MOT test station with "light box" to adjust.

Its amazing what minor adjustments the MOT guys may do for you if a packet of choccy biscuits is donated to their tea fund

To clarify, the adjusters move the whole lot, IIRC, not just the main beam.

Yep, adjusters move both beams. You must set the aim on dipped beam only, main aren't check on MOT for aim. If your dipped are right the mains should be fine, they are meant to point up a fair bit as the dipped are still on and provide light as normal.

Looking at the manual ,it did appear that any adjustment would effect the position of both beams..high and low.
As said before the main beam seemed to be more like a search light with alot going up in the air,but saying that the fog was very thick so could have been just my imagination as you get a really strange effect in fog with main beam.

Wouldn`t that depend on how long your legs were?

Dwarfs and Giants may not be able to follow this advice

I just passed my mot and my high beam shine up towards the trees, rather than down the road. Like I said earlier, your dipped are lighting up the road ahead and the mains are showing up the distance. To get any sort of range on the light it will have to shine up a fair bit. Mains in fog do look like they are going skyward, which I would say is normal.

Remember that, in fog, you're looking at the "top edge" of the beam from the headlights.

only get bit of glare back on high beam in fog, main beam looks like looking under  carpet, but can see good and that is with out the fogs on.
