cracked bumper, dents in body work, 130k on 2litre with noises from the engine and no service history, and a less desirable model..

Its kind of on its money to me.... untill more information is gained about that noise..

I didn't see what the mot was, but if it is at least 6 months, then it would certainly be worth £400 ish as a daily hack then donor/parts/project car.

Correct me if I am wrong, but even if these engines are a bit noisy and even at 130k, they can still go on for a while. Obviously dep on noises.

that being the key part - what is it wear and tear, water pump, timing belt - who knows from that listing

could be valve gear clatter when its cold.  My 2L did that for the 50 odd k miles I had it for.   Obviously only guessing without more to go on.

Shame you're so far away bertie, last week I was offered a 96P reg 2.0 16v GLS Estate Manual in Blue with T+T into the summer. Towbar and it was owned by a mechanic. I was told its a great runner.
Less that £150.

I fancied it as a workhorse, you know, estate, towbar, perfect.
But as the missus car has decided to kill it's engine, all pennies are going to fix this thing and SWMBO will not drive "an old mans car"

I dont know if its still for sale though.
