Ignition switch
« on: 09 August 2010, 21:55:24 »

Anyone changed an ignition switch on the Omega ? Mine started to play up a week ago a couple of times and gave up the ghost tonight, luckily outside my house. Took the cowling off, and after a phonecall to the great pink one, tried to remove lock barrel. Catch 22 situation for me though. I was told to insert key and turn switch then insert small screwdriver in hole in casing to release lock barrel. That`s the problem... key goes into barrel ok but cant turn it.  :(

Had this a couple of weeks back. Try squirting some lubricant into the lock, and also try tapping the end of the key while attempting to turn. Make sure the steering wheel has been turned to ease any load on the steering lock.

Once the barrel has come out it's straightforward to refurbish it. See the guide here.http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225657771

Thanx Kevin. I will try that. I was in the process of squirting some lube into lock when it packed up completely. I had a struggle to get key to turn when i was up at my local petrol station a few mins earlier and thought i would try some lube. Bloody frustrating trying to get the key to turn  >:(

Also.. to access the hole to release the barrel i have to turn my steering wheel through 180 degrees from its current position.  :(
