Retrofitting carin sat nav to MV6
« on: 16 September 2010, 18:21:04 »

I bought a 2nd hand satnav with all the looms.
looking to fit it to my MV6, using http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1202730965
trouble is, there's no six-way plug behind the passenger kick plate.
AND the website which describes how to break out wires from the loom:- http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/omega-elite/menupages/omegasatnav/satnav.htm

isn't there any more...

so - how do I do it?

also - no speaker included with the sat nav - I have a two-way plug with blue/green and blue/yellow wires.
I'm assuming this is the speaker connection, so what size/spec speaker do I use?

thanks!

Are you SURE the connector isn't there? It is usually well tucked away.

My '98 MV6 had the connector as did a '98 CD and '98 CDX I've seen.

Carin was an option on the MV6, so the connector should be there.

Re the speaker, almost anything will do - get a Nokia one off ebay from a phone car kit - it will come in a nice housing also. I've used one and it works well.  :y

The 6 ways plug only appeared on MV6s from 98.5 - my MV6 didn't have it either, so I had to add it.

All the info is in the Maint Guide, just a bit 'messy'/'bitty'. The wanadoo site had nothing of use on it to be honest.

Double checked - definitely no plug :.(

So - do the wires I'm looking for in the car loom match the colours of the wires in the loom for the sat-nav?

If not, what colour wires am I looking for?

Cos the maintenance guide doesn't say, nor does the pdf files in the last reply to the maintenance guide

The PDF states colours IIRC, and pin locations on the main connector.

You are (I think) correct in that the PDF shows colours(?)

Terminal 1: WSSW
Terminal 2: BLRT
Terminal 3: GRGE
Terminal 4: GRGN
Terminal 5: BRRT (BART?)
Terminal 6: Unoccupied.

It's all double deutsch to me...

I'm assuming first two letters show main colour, second two
give stripe colour?

BL = Blue?
GR = Grey?
GN = Green?
GE = Beigey????
WS = White????
SW = ???????????
BR = Brown?
RT = ????????????

This is gonna be what appears to be a REALLY dumb question, but:

What's the best way to take a tap off the wires?
I'm assuming scotchblocks are disparaged?
Cut the wire, strip back, then solder in a fly lead?

Where can I source a 6 way plug? Maplins?

I'm assuming I'll have to disconnect the battery first?
