Bose rear shelf speakers
« on: 01 October 2010, 18:37:26 »

I have changed my head unit to a sony explod. I have changed the front door speakers to pioneers. Rear doors speakers disconnected.
Question the sound coming from the rear shelf speakers, the original bose, is totally crap. If I merely buy and install new speakers to the rear shelf will the sound immediately improve?

wait for the bang!

you are driving 2ohm speakers with a 4ohm source.

speakers, or headunit may well fry very quickly.

to go aftermarket if you have bose, you need to replace all the speakers, and remove the amp.

Sorry.

No worries JimBob.

The amp was nicked by a previous owner and they just rewired the shelf speakers.

The reason I'm asking is will 2ohm speakers souind crap with a 4 ohm sourse....they DO seem to right now.

Was wondering if I simply buy a set of quality 4ohm's and swap them over will the sound quality improove merely by swapping the BOSE 2 ohm's for 2 4ohms.

I was hoping to do it myself over this weekend basically.

There is NO separate amp in the system..as mentioned..it disappeared ??

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

I cannot repeat that too often

YES! Take out the 2 ohm speakers and throw them as far as you can.

2 Ohm speakers will overload the output stage of any normal ICE that is expecting 4 Ohm speakers and potentially cause failure of the output amplifiers, fire, global warming, personal injury and death (though I may have made the last bit up  ::))

LOL....There again Andy...perhaps not. Suspect Omegas have been responsible for several early deaths and the V6 at full pelt...global warming also.

Mind you, I'm assuming the plonkers that nicked the amp, rewired the shelf speakers to the right signals/wires. I get sound BUT it's just pretty crap to be honest.

I'm equally assuming that I can take off the BOSE surrounds and change them over from above. Am a gonna be that lucky ???

What size speakers do I need to look for in the morning...9" rings a bell.
