« on: 23 November 2010, 21:28:16 »

hi, i have an issue now and again when starting my 2.6 auto - 53 plate.  engine/spanner light flashes, wont start. have done the pedal test and code 1612 & 1613 flash up. forum tells me this is an immobiliser fault - but not sure what the fix is, is this a garage job or can i fix / replace this myself. do have some wiring knowledge, any advice is appreciated, cheers guys :-/

check your key, the wee chip inside is probably loose, it needs to be glued into its position for the barell reader to pick it up  :y

Simple things first ....

Have you had the key apart at all ?? Inside the key is the immobilisor chip ... very small rectangular black chip. If the key is taken apart it can easily fall out .. :(

Even if not taken apart, if the key is dropped the chip can become loose and move inside the key.. it then does not"line up" with the corresponding part on the steering lock ...

I had this problem on the old car .. eventually sorted by a tiny drop of superglue to hold the chip in the right place !!!

Easy fix ..once I found the problem .. :)

have you got a spare key? if so try that and see if the problem is still there, if it is then maybe the reader around the barell has come adrift. means taking off the cowling to have a look
