Hi all,

The battery on the Omega has gone completely flat overnight, after a charge all is OK but it seems to have started doing this over the last couple of days.

I have noticed that after I lock up the car the MID stays on. Is this normal? I have never noticed but I thought it has switched off in the past.

Do you think this could be draining my battery? I have not done any tests on the current drain as yet, I am waiting for the battery to get a good charge.

I have taken the clocks out and pulled the plug on the MID and reinserted as per the guide, but they still show the date, time etc when the car is off and locked. The radio turns on and off OK.

I will check the battery, but I am sure the MID has something to do with it. Can it be repaired or is it best to swap out for a known working MID?

Yes, I have the radio code.

Either pull the fuse for the radio (#6 I think) or remove radio for about 20 minutes

Agreed, although I would ALWAYS pull the radio for one hour and never just the fuse in order to reboot and reset the radio

Reason being that pulling "A" fuse does not necessarily allow all of the circuits to discharge inside the stereo, as something may still be supplying a signal to the stereo and keeping some bits powered.

Thanks guys, I pulled fuse 6 out and the radio, the display in the dash is still showing the date and time.

I see fuse 20 looks to cover the display etc. Is it worth pulling this fuse as well?

I noticed while at the fusebox fuse 4 seems to be missing which looks like it is for the fan, which is interesting!

I was wrong, it looks like fuse 12 kills the display and radio amongst other things.

Pulling the radio didn't seems to kill the display as the date etc were still on.

Hopefully with fuse 12 out overnight it may reset. Otherwise it looks like a new display?

Hi,

I might be way off the mark here but is your interior light working as normal?

I only ask because most Vauxhalls leave the auxillary circuits on to allow you to, for example, close your windows after you have pulled the key out of the ignition. It waits for the drivers side door to open and close before turning everything off.

Get in you car, shut the door and turn on the ingition. Then turn it off and remove the key. Raise and lower your window and then open and close the door. At this point everything should switch off. If after closing the door your windows still work (without having replaced the key) then it's not seeing the door open and/or close and not switching off the aux power circuit. If this is the case I'd start with the door switch.

Thanks guys, I pulled the fuses and stereo and left it for a couple of days as I was working, came back to the battery completely flat. Re-connected and charged for 3 hrs. It seems like the drain is elsewhere as the MID and radio were off when I left it.

I worked the door switch a few times, it did not seem to be sticking, but it is working as it should (I am not sure if it was before).

It does seem to be cured though, as when I pull the key now from the ignition the MID goes off after a few seconds (even when I am still in the car). I wonder if a complete drain of the battery has reset some of the circuits?
I have not unplugged the ignition switch as suggested, but I wonder if this is the start of the problem.

I will check again tomorrow to see if the battery has drained, if it has I will do the checks with my meter, but hopefully it will be OK from now on!

Plently of other niggles to be getting on with anyway, but nothing that stops the car being used.

I have not checked the powersounder, although the alarm has not gone off when the battery was dead, so it may have already been removed?

I will check that tomorrow, although the MID now goes off straight away whereas it stayed on constantly before.
