Engine Management Light
« on: 14 May 2011, 11:07:26 »

Hi,

i replaced catalytic converter on my Omega2.2 2003 in March but few weeks later Engine management light came on. i went to the garage to check, guy told me that it is showing code P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)) and told me to change lambda sensors. I went to another garage to check he showed me same code but told that catalytic converter is not the correct one and even if you change lambda sensors it will stay on. But the garage who replaced catlaytic converter he has given me 1 yr guarantee.

I m confused whether if catalytic converter does affect this?

please help!!  :(

3 possibilities.
1) Inferior cat supplied
2) Dodgy wiring to sensor
3) Non "type approved" cat fitted

Need a lamda junkie (Kevin Wood, where are you :P) to confirm, but don't think an aged lamda would cause this, as it should be reading permenently lean, but is occasionally reading rich?

My initial reaction is a shite cat. Why was it changed, flexi joint blowing?

Sadly, they should have repaired the flexi, leaving you still with the superior GM cat  :'(

Check there is no wiring damage from the incident though...

Two types for the 2.2. Non-approved up to MY `01. Approved after `01. Approved has more precious metals and larger "brick". As TB says, aftermarket are shite, but the approved may keep the light out, doubtful with the cheapo non approved
