Positive cable from battery. Connection point?

Hello.

I wonder where I should connect the long positive cable from the battery. Found it lose.. And it is allready a positive cable to the startengine, should it be two? It is a opel omega 2.5 TD 6 cylinders. The same motor as the BMW 2.5 TD.

Need quick help. Thanks :)

Not sure how this has become loose but possibly the alternator?

Sure mine has 2 from the battery, a big one and a small one, I would have to check to be certain.... :-/

The only configuration I can think of these.
One, the thickest to the Alternator and the thinner one to the starter motor.
or
The thick one to the Alternator and the thinnner one to the fuse/relay box adjacent to the battery.
Are you sure that it is the Positive lead and not the negative of which one goes to the engine and one to the Chassis. Its weird but the earth/return negative is coloured brown on mine so it may just be an easy fix.
Is the loose end live? That will tell the truth of which it is.

Other way round. The alternator will probably current limit at about 120-140 amps but the starter motor can take way more than that. In addition, resistance in the supply to the starter is critical to get the best power from it, so it will have the thicker connection.

IIRC the starter and alternator share a single connection to the battery, although I may be wrong. Glow plug relay will also have a thick feed from the battery positive terminal.

As the OP doesn't mention anything about other problems (not starting, not charging) I'm thinking more along the lines of a now redundant Amplifier cable, or other aftermarket device which has been installed then badly removed by a previous owner???  :-/

All I can suggest then is that if everything is working as it should remove it before it poses any risks by shorting out and causing a fire if its a live one. ::)
