The Credit is still on the system, a quick chat with O2 from another handset give them the Mobile or Sim Number and they should reactivate the Sim and your Credit, I did one for someone recently who had £8.79 or something left and they where kind enough (when asked) to top it up to £10 so they could buy some Add Ons.

Happy ending - your advice was spot on - they will re-connect my number and restore the £19.50 credit that was there.  In future, I must make at least one chargeable call every six months.

Just in time for my holiday :)
