idle
« on: 14 October 2011, 13:43:43 »

hi all
in the fl 2.5 petrol manual i have a problem with the idle  :(  it drives fine but only idles at 500rpm which is causing the car to vibrate  :( then every now and then the revs will blip up to appox 1200rpm then come straight back down to 500 rpm  also switching on and off eco doesnt affect the revs in any way which i thought it should  ???  my mfl idles at approx 650 rpm and runs fine and also does more miles to the gallon than the facelift  :'(
so any ideas what to look for??? the brathers and cam cover gaskets have just been done by elite pete (thanks mate) but anything else i can look for clean etc or can the rpm be increased anyhow ??

500 rpm is the correct idle value for aircon off.

The fact that when you turn climate on which should kick the aircon in has no effect on rpm points towards the aircon not working.

As Mark says above, turning Aircon on should increase RPM, as its not, it indicates its not working.

Either the compressor has failed, or its too low on refrigerant pressure.

Needs an aircon specialist really. Although worth having a nose around all air-con pipes for any sign of the dye's they put in.

thanks tunnie

i have noticed that when running both cars with aircon on, the mfl pipework (silver) gets ice cold and condensation whereas the f/l pipework doesnt even get cold  :'(

You can have a helper switch the aircon on and off while you watch the compressor (engine running) to see if the compressor clutch kicks in or not. It sounds like your too low on refrigerant for the compressor to engage, thus the difference in pipes not being cold.

hooray  ;D
refrigerant topped up, no leaks  :) compressor working  :) now have ice cold air and a steady idle which changes when switching aircon on and off  :)
result  ;)
