Noise on the back end!
« on: 18 October 2011, 23:10:34 »

I've had a noise that seems to be coming from the center of the car at the back, I had a good look underneath and noticed some oil on the underside of the diff.
So I checked the level of the oil in the diff and that was fine, I have also checked to see if there is any play in both wheels suspecting a bearing.
It is a sort of droning noise that changes with the speed of the car. And before anyone says it, no my missus is not in the back ;D

Swap the front wheels to the back to rule out tyre drone/noise

I took the car to london last week, from South Wales. About 350miles round trip and the sound hasn't got any worse.

Just because there's no play in the bearing doesn't rule it out... I helped a member change one recently that had no play at all but was very noisy ;) Does the noise change when you corner?

Thats fair enough! but shouldn't the noise come from one side, because my noise seems to be coming from the middle. :)
