replacement speakers
« on: 20 October 2011, 20:02:19 »

What size(inch), type(mid, low etc) and rated(ohm) speakers would I need to replace those in my car (97 elite estate without Bose).
One of the front door speakers isnt the best any more and I figure if I am going to replace one it would be best to change them all as 1 new speaker will make the rest sound odd.
As I understand it the fronts are split into 2 with the tweeter being up by the mirror. So, is it worth replacing those too.
Many thanks    Al

I think they are 16.5 front doors.

You will need some speaker adaptor rings to make them fit - not expensive, generally only a few quid or so - My supplier doesn`t have an eta at teh moment, so cannot help on them, but as for speakers, try these

Cheers Dave, I have plenty access to metal at work and can easily knock up some plates myself. Would those tweeters fit in by the mirrors and what would I need for the rears please?

Pop down to your local scrap yard and remove the front speakers from a Vectra, they are the same.

No need to replace the tweeter, they NEVER fail through normal use.

But if you are going to that effort, why replace them with the tat that GM fit. May as well put something a little better in :y

If you followed that logic then you'd find yourself driving a B.M.W.
I've always thought Vx. speakers weren't that bad really, once you feed them a decent signal...

You will struggle to find a worse speaker...

Paper cone speakers with a surround that has bio degradeable characteristics - yes, I have to agree that the Vx speakers are about as bad as they come.
