Engine Tapping
« on: 14 September 2011, 14:11:31 »

I've got a tapping/ticking coming from the engine. Ian D told me get some lifter treatment.
Any recommendation?

Probably sticking lifters.Wynns lifter treatment (around £6 from Hellfrauds) might help. Depends how bad it is tbh.
A couple of short oil changes with decent oil may also help .
My current breaker sounded slightly tappy first time I started it up. It hadnt been run for a while so maybe the lifters had dried out a bit. I bought some wynns treatment, started the engine to warm it up before I tipped it in and lo and behold the tapping had disappeared all by itself. Tipped the wynns in anyway, as I had bought it.Engine runs like a swiss watch now. Or it did until I disconnected everything attached to it. :)

Get yourself a trade card from autobahnstormers (25 quid) and give it lots of oil changes  :y

Every 1000 miles or so or as soon as the oil starts to dis colour  :y
IIRC, 20 ltrs of oil for about 40 quid  :y

This should help  ;)

If not, its time to pull the lifters out and give them a good squeeze in a vice to get the old oil out  ;)
