Which pulley is this?? 2.5 V6
« on: 05 November 2011, 16:26:39 »

Hiya fellas, hope you can help. Noticed a bit of a squeal from the engine over the last few days. On looking at engine (2.5 V6) from the front, its the bottom right hand pulley on the auxiliary belt below the water pump which is barely turning. Can't seem to find a pic in either Haynes or the Maintenance Guides. Any help much appreciated  :y

isnt that the a/c pump  :-\   your squeal could be the tensioner bearing on its way out

Yep thats the a/c compressor - won't run unless a/c on and working.  If it seizes you'll have trouble turning over engine on starter, and if it does fire up it certainly won't rev - from experience!!  ;)

Yep A/C compressor.Even if A/C is off the pulley should still turn as normal. If it doesnt,I would presume a seized bearing or similar.
Squealing from aux. belt area is usually from tensioner bearing drying out.

Ahhhh nuts. Not spinning up with engine revs It has seemd to be harder to start up and slightly slower on the revs recently. Must be on the way out. Cheers lads  :y Could be on my way to Bromsgrove soon then...for the better   :) :)

If its seized I would imagine it will soon shred the aux belt. ;)

If your AC Pump is getting suspect you can go to Vauxhall and ask for an Auxbelt without Air Con. It will miss the  Pump out then, leaving you a little more time to sort it without any trouble :)

If Vx says they haven't got a non a/c belt for a V6 ask for an Omega 2 lit (4 pot) belt with a/con - its same length & will do the job  :y

Sounds to me like the A/C system is low on gas, hence the compressor is not engaging. The squealing might well be the compressor clutch bearing. If the air con is re-gassed the clutch will engage again and this will become less of an issue.

Not that when the compressor clutch is not engaged the front of the pulley will not turn, or may edge round slowly due to drag on the clutch. The ring that the belt runs round should still spin, though, as it's on the other side of the clutch to the pulley front face. If in doubt, take the belt off and see if the ring will spin freely.
