Power Sounder Battery
« on: 28 November 2011, 10:07:16 »

The alarm on my 2.5v6 auto has been playing up in the last few days, and I'm wondering whether the power sounder battery is the reason.  Everything is fine when I lock the car with the remote, but after about 18 hours the alarm goes off, and even when locking the car with the key it still goes off.

Is this a sign that the battery is on the way out?

Any advise would be appreciated guys.

Many thanks

Possibly - But I`d probably disconnect the bonnet pin switch to rule that out first

Either way, get the power sounder off the car and in the bin.  Before it BBQ's your car.  :y

Thanks.

Yes, these things can just set themselves on fire!  if the batteries leak, they can and do go up in flames.

seen it a good half dozen times on here...Including on my own drive!  luckily we heard it and no real damage sustained.

see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1259433462 for an example.

Considering the millions of these that GM fitted to their cars, I wouldn't consider half a dozen cases to be a cause of paranoia  ::) ::) ::)

I agree Andy that it isn't a huge number in terms of percentage failiure.  Having said that, figures mean jack if you happen to be one of the few affected.   :(

Power sounders do not have an infinate life, and although rare as a percentage, failure can be pretty spectacular when they do go.

They are required by your insurance to be fitted, but they are readily available fom the main dealers and very easily fitted should you want to change your one for peace of mind.

Many thanks for all your help.  Have already been in contact with my local garage and am having a new battery fitted tomorrow morning!

Still having 'issues' with my abs ecu. TC and abs lights coming on and going off, diagnosed as the abs ecu.  Was trying to get a s/h one but no joy so far and now considering getting mine repaired.  Noticed, however, that you are breaking a 2002 2.6 auto-would that fit my 2.5v6 auto if necessary?  Have located an ecu specialist just up the road from me in Derby (at Alfreton) and am giving them a call after lunch, but thought I'd pose the question anyway.

The 2.6 has a different and incompatible type of ABS ECU to the 2.5.  I'll drop you a PM though  :y
