They are about 1000Kg kerb weight (slightly shy of it).

Remember that drag factor is a major factor in fuel comsumption at speed.

Why so weighty, Mark?. A Mk1 Escort was about 700/800 Kg... :-\ :-\ :-\

Ignoring the fuel consumption, a lighter car will, suitably set up, go, handle and stop better. And if we stripped all of the safety equipment out, so the crumple zones were effectively your legs and nose... how many people would try their best to stay safe, knowing they haven't got fourteen bouncy castles and gadgetrickery to help them out?

According to the Corsa manual the kerb weight of a (2003 model) Corsa 1.2sxi 3 door is 1045 Kg.

Apparently, this includes a 68kg driver ......7Kg of luggage.....all fluids..... and a 90% full petrol tank.

Ah, if only.. I could have had a great career in basketball, were that the case (oh, and if I possessed any ball handling skills whatsoever). But no, I'm a wee 5'10".
