I spend so much time dealing with people in various states of disrepair, I use it as inspiration to keep myself as fit as I can, purely to give me a fighting chance as I get older - but we all know of someone who's dropped dead despite their best efforts to stay healthy. Tis a lottery.
True.

I just regret not being able to buy lottery tickets the night I got bump started...   ;D

Seems 40 > 50 is a dodgy stage in a mans life, couple of my mates are no longer with us and another came very close but salvaged at the last minute by the NHS.

In my experience its better to die young, (Huh, missed that then  :-\ ) then you miss all this old age crap.  Fifty seems to be the health cut off point - after this, its all downhill - slalom style.  ;)

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost a good mate aged 28, some mornings when I struggle to get up I'm not too sure who got the best deal. . . .

My Dad worked his knackers off all his life, but vowed to retire at fifty..... At 53 he bought his boat and caravan and was preparing to sell his business and retire, when he was diagnosed with cancer!  6 weeks later he was gone......  :'(

I was 23 at the time and vowed that the same thing wouldn't happen to me.  Although I've always worked and paid my way, I've travelled the world, done some extraordinary things/jobs, lived in some great places and generally had fun!!!  ;)  As someone put it recently... 'a life less ordinary...'  :)

2 years ago at the age of 40 I was diagnosed with cancer and I'm really lucky to be here to tell the tale! Just over a year ago I had some pretty radical surgery, during which there were complications and I nearly didn't get through it.....  Reflecting on it all in the days afterwards I decided that I didn't have too many regrets about how I've lived my life.  Apart from the ones who got away ::) and a time in my thirties when all my 'friends' hassled me to 'settle down' and get a proper job... blah blah blah  >:(  and I did.......  :o :(

I'm in South Wales at the moment and was going to go to the meet...... but I was too busy working.......  ::)  :-[ :-\
