Car Keys stolen
« on: 10 December 2011, 08:09:37 »

My son's partner had her handbag stolen yesterday with car keys in. Now using spare set but obviously thief could come back for car (we are keeping it elsewhere since it happened last night).

Will ring BMW shortly and no doubt lock change etc will be mega expensive. Any known workarounds avoiding main dealer for this?

On a Beemer, its got to be a dealership or a large Indy who has required equipment. Its going to be quite expensive I am afraid.

A few years ago, SWMBO had her bag stolen whilst at work >:(    I rang the insurance up, they collected the car within the hour and took it to the dealer, where they held it until the locks were changed.
The bill was for over £700 on her Laguna, but cost us just the insurance excess :(      A pain, but quicker & better than losing the car ::)

sorry forgot to say it is a Mini Cooper 2006. Thanks all - managed to get it booked in for 2.30 today at BMW.

Hopefully now the person (property owner) who went out and left the door unlocked  where she was working will foot the bill (he has already paid £140 to have her door locks changed urgently last night).

Surprised main dealer working at 2.30 in the afternoon.

Insurance will cover lock change. If our neighbours experience is anything to go by.
They cut the internal handle off they're front door, double glazed style, as the letter box is right next to it, they could reach in through letter box and open the door from the inside, if not double locked.
They had keys to lexus and Bmw stollen. Combined bill was over 2k iirc.

If it'd been the Omega I could have popped round and unpaired the old keys for you. Alas, not much help with a BMW. :-\

Nah, has access to lap top based software for de pairing, but if visiting dealer for new key they'll do all that anyway. Apparently.

Block the car in if pos. Mean time.

thanks Chris - just hope the guy is true to his word and pays all the bills on this. Car is safe.

It is a nightmare - payslips in bag, N I number, address book, cards, you name it - you know that a woman's handbag is like the Tardis.

I had this a couple of years ago with a 330ci someone took a set of keys from the pub, took the car to Sytner at Leicester, they charged me £45 to deauthorise the keys and £87 for a new replacement key. I already had a spare but did,nt fancy relying on one key.
