Arr mig in the air , was going to ask if you put ramps at back but now i see ...last recall was mig front skirt hits the bottom of ramps 

Personally, I would use the ramps on the front by means of a piece of wood or similar to reduce the approach angle of the front skirt of the bumper to avoid impact and have the rear wheels on axle stands.

That removes ANY possibility of inadvertant starting of the engine and running it through the gears and then forgetting the car is 18" up in the air and the rear wheels in contact with the ramps.....      

My reasoning for reversing up the ramps was that the back wheels were locked/braked while I lift the front. If done the other way, the front wheels are free to turn while you lift the back .........  No right or wrong I suppose.

If any doubt, or suspicion of raising one rear corner too high so the other becomes unbraked, you could use a ratchet strap around a front wheel onto the ramp keeping the car in place.

Or just raise the rear corners a bit at a time until both off the floor....

Once the car is up on the ramps i guess its a case of jacking up each corner bit by bit till its level ....too much of a balance to jack the whole front up in the middle , dont think my jack will take full weight of the mig

I am lucky enough to have a sloping driveway.  So I made up a pair of ramps with the same gradient so the car is left horizontal with just enough room to work underneath.  They run the full length of the car, made from railway sleepers and scaffold board - over engineered but safe and simple to use.  I'll post a pic next time I use them.

Not wanting to be a pedant against another pedant but, your wrist goes upto your oxter/armpit, irrespective if your hand is higher or lower than said oxter/armpit.....      

We moved from Scotland when the kids were young.  I remember one of them coming home from school confused by the local dialect and asking me "What's an armpit?".

You can't beat a good stick set on high amps 

That's what airing cupboards are for.  Firing up the arc welder at night dips the house lights though and annoys swmbo. 

I've used my mates big high lift trolley jacks before and managed to get my car on four ramps. That really confused the neighbours.

This can be done without lifting the complete car.  I cannot claim originality for this, I read it on here some time ago.  To check the auto box level, raise one side of the car and remove filler plug and add oil.  Place drip tray under and lower car with engine running.  When oil stops dripping out, raise car with engine still running and refit filler plug.  Obviously use axle stands before going under car and very securely chock the two wheels remaining on the ground.

Another way  , that sounds easier than raising the whole car esp as i have a slope on the drive ...not too much of a slope but i guess its enough to make it dangerous . Thanks for the advice
