Omega rubber seals
« on: 18 January 2012, 06:15:02 »

In general, can they be re-used after opening/removing components or not? It has been said that plenum o-rings can be re-used, as well as inlet trumpet/divider seals, also oil plug o-ring can be re-used. What about oil filter housing seal, the one between housing and block? I replaced it in the summer when doing the oil cooler, now I had to remove housing when replacing block heater seals and I re-used the 4 month old seal which seems to weep some oil now. (not dropping, its just moist). Also, when I didi that job I put the old filter and filter cap O-ring back which was a mistake because the oil filter cap o-ring leaked immediately. So it at least has to be changed every time you open the cap.

So, is there a "guideline" which ones can and which ones can not be re-used, given that seals are in fairly good condition?

All the inlet ones should be fine unless one gets dislodged and trapped when re fitting.

Oil related ones, I've never changed the sump plug seal. Oil filter comes with a new one anyway so that gets changed.
