Hi All
I am having increasing problems with a loud clicking noise when steering is put under any load , eg full lock or turning wheel when at very slow speed such as parking.
Any ideas ?
And is it something i can tackle as a keen learner but certainly no mechanic !
Nothing comes up on paper clip test , not sure if it should anyway.

How fast are the clicks? My old mondeo made a loud fast clicking noise when steering/parking etc, my elite was making the same noise only deeper (more of a clunk) under the same conditions. Turned out to be drop links fubar on both

sounds like the power steer pump is goosed, not too bad a job to do tbh.

Hi

Pas fluid is fine and not losing any.
Clicks are fairly quick and increase with the load on steering .
Full lock causes most clicks.
No loss of steering ability just a worry really.

I sounds like some sort of joint maybe worn . When your on full lock or parking this is when all steering joints are put under most stress as the car is not moving so its dragging your tyres on the ground with all that wait on top of it . you need to jack the car up and check all joints there is a how to on here somewhere make sure its on axle stands first or your local garage might shake it around for you for a drink if you know what i me.

Hi all
Well whatever it is the power steering has now gone completely.
The pump hasnt lost any fluid as far as i can make out.
So if it is the pump where is best to get one ? Do i have to go to vx or car factors or would a second hand one from here be ok, assuming there is one?

Stick an ad in test zone and nice uncle Jimbob will move it for you.

Should be able to get a good used one from a breaker on here, if you don't have offers already that is.

So is it safe to assume changing the pump would solve the problem with what wad the clicking and now total loss of power steering
Also .. I know I sound stupid but is it safe to drive even tho its like a tank ?
