HT leads
« on: 05 February 2012, 15:43:30 »

Hi, i have narrowed the running issue down to a dodgy HT lead ...now the guy at the acc shop says you cant have one lead you have to buy the set  >:( Can i get just one HT lead from vx ? Also he said £85 for an aftermarket diss pack if i need one  :-\

I found bosch leads on ebay for about £50 inc delivery and genuine dis pack for £45 +delivery from dews motors - much cheaper than most vauxhall dealers!  I think i found the dews dis pack through 24/7 spares.

Because the front drivers side HT has no power im presuming its the lead so need to get a new one so i can see if the lead is the problem , if i still have no joy from the new HT then ill know its the diss pack ...done the diagnosis like you said with the engine running and pull each individual lead .

Think the acc shop is having a laugh at £85 for an aftermarket diss pack , £35 for a set of leads  :y

Not as bad as a motor factors near me - wanted £150 for an aftermarket dis pack, when even list price for genuine is £160!
Have you pulled that lead off and switched it for the one next to it (pull the lead off both ends - plug end and dis end) put that one on 3 for example and the lead from 3 on 1.  If theres  still no spark then its dis pack, if there is a spark it's the other lead.

Seems like no spark/power to the lead from the diss pack on the swapped lead , so looks like a new diss pack job  :-\

At least that rules out the leads, look on 24/7 spares for dis pack/coil pack bargain for a new genuine pack!

. Im getting use to working blind so to speak but if i have to remove it finding the bolt holes will be another story  ::)

It's not 'that' bad if you climb up on the engine bay and wedge your hand in there!  The top 3 aren't too bad but the lowest one might be a bit tricky from the top, like i say i had a ramp so could get it from underneath.  Have a look at a pic on ebay or something so you get an idea of where they are, and it might be easier to unclip hydraulic rams from bonnet and tie it back for a bit more headroom and light.

Yes could be an option , ive been leaning over the drivers side and hooking my arm round the back of the engine .
Might even get a plank of wood across the bay , lift the bonnet right up like your saying and rip the dam thing out . Trying to stay calm about this but ive been on it all weekend but hopefully the diss pack will sort it  :-X

Try and stay calm, i know it's a stressful job and i also have a short fuse when it comes to fiddly things, I ripped the windscreen scuttle off cos i lost my temper, so if i get it fixed thats gonna be more money!  Like i said if your stress levels are rising take a break, have a cuppa and go back with a fresh head.
Definately try climbing up on the engine, i tried from side on and wrists just don't bend that way!  Once your up there (get something soft to kneel on) it's much easier and you can get your hand right down there and feel around with much less discomfort.   :y

Stress levels "if i had a hammer" springs to mind  ;D ;D

I know what your saying , but today i did manage to see the diss pack all be it at a stretch ...once the wires around it have been disconnected and everything prised out the way it should be better  ::) i didn't want to disconnect everything around it in case i forgot where it all went back . Think ill colour code what i take apart .

I think theres only 3 plugs to disconnect down the back there, and they're all different so you cant put them back wrong, just remember how many you un-plugged and you should be fine.  Once all the bolts are undone and leads off it's still a pig to get out, pull the couple of small pipes off for that little extra room, you need all you can get!  I think i turned it 90degrees anti-clockwise and wobbled it out.
Colour coding is a good idea if your not sure, or a bit of masking tape and use numbers or letters, so it's like matching dominos when it goes back together.

Good luck stay cool 8)
