Just weigh up the pros and cons, financially, as well as your time against expenditure in money. You'll need to spend time sourcing the parts, then getting them sprayed, then fit them - not accounting for any unforeseens.
What is the real effect of claiming against having a proper repair done by a bodyshop with all things considered
the amount that your premium will go up.
Sorry - didn't make it clear. I meant the cost of claiming against a DIY job, but not purely in terms of money
DIY has the potential to bring a lot of aggro with it. You need to source, collect (may or may not be local) and pay for the parts. Maybe a respray, or a touch-up needed.
Other damage not initially seen, such as inner wing. Then doing the work - maybe enlisting help from friends or OOF members and fitting the time in.
All I am saying it is sometimes, and not only with cars, more viable to pay a bit more in the present moment, to eradicate all these variables and be relatively hassle free, whilst still having some time to do other things in life. Everybody is always saying how there are not enough hours in the day.
I recently had a fuel sorted by a garage rather than doing myself. By the time I would travelled to get the pieces, lifted car, dropped tank, replaced lines, got covered in petrol bla bla, it made far more sense to pay a garage the relatively small amount to do it.
