squeek from brakes but stop when applyed??
« on: 24 February 2012, 00:37:52 »

ive checked on the "search" about squeeking brakes but doesn't anser my question....

driving at any speed...
i have a squeel, squeek from what sounds like N/S of car ive checked all discs pads calipers etc all seem fine...

no discolouration to discs "blueing" from a seized caliper...

pads are all ok un cracked...

calipers are free & greased on sliders pistons work ok...

i fitted new front branded pads oem i think..? about 3000miles ago they were £26 not the cheepy £13 option
as the old pads were glazed cracked & half worn..

The front discs are like new no signs of hardly any wear on them i think previous keeper had new discs but left the old pads in!!!

Anyway But when i brake hard or slightly squeek stops the peddle seems to go a long way down car slows down but can stand on peddle & cruses to a stop, squeek stops but after a few 100yrds or corners comes back again?? if i double pump the brakes when coming up to a junction or stopping on 1st pump again slows but not much 2nd pump they pull on very strong, if i press to hard ABS cuts in & stops Dead!!

Handbrake is average but again if i apply while driving squeek remains...

Could i possably have a warped rear disc? its pushing pistons back further than norm giving me the loss of brake pressure on 1st pump..?

my brake fluid was changed 20k ago so maybe due again but why am i getting a squeek??

I had the same problem with my rear discs and pads. I was replacing them anyway but it turned out that the backing plate was sticking. Mainly due to the pads/discs were old and due for replacement. Was very annoying though. ;D

Something rubbing when off the brakes, the pads is being pushed against the disc perhaps? Are the pads seated correctly and free to move? Sometimes a build up of brake dust can make the pad very tight to fit and it can not sit flush and fully recessed as it should. Are the springs seated correctly with both side of the spring compressed, not one prong poking through the calliper hole?

Does the wheel spin free when jacked, or is something dragging?
