Water Pump for my Omega
« on: 25 February 2012, 20:55:20 »

Judging from what ive read on here, my new annoying screeching noise coming from cam belt area is sure to be The Water Pump

this was replaced about 20,000 miles ago by Vauxhall in Benson near Wallingford along with cambelt, surely it shouldn't have gone already? :'(
the cars hardly been used day in day out

is this a big time consuming job and expensive?

oh god  :-[

My thoughts too. I'd be more inclined to think of Aux tensioner as first port of call, especially knowing the WP isn't that old ???

Remove aux belt by releasing the tension on the top L/H aux belt tensioner pulley.

Give the water pump pulley a good pull from side to side and back/forth to see if you have any excess play or can get it to make the same noise you are hearing.

My money is on the aux tensioner pulley possibly dry of grease so either repack with new grease or replace just the pulley wheel and bearings.

Possibly not a job to let your "experienced mechanic " loose on though going by his past track records in the repair department.

OMG another long topic  ???

As lazydocker/amba say above probably aux belt tensioner.

5 mins to test and 15 mins to remove aux belt tensioner (undo one nut!!), repack with grease and refit (do up one nut!!).

No doubt your tame mechanic will charge £250 for this job  :)

If aux belt tensioner breaked replacement (pulley only) is about £24 on TC
