An update, some good Omega news and some Q's
« on: 29 February 2012, 20:23:44 »

Hi,

Well been away and not able to work on Ralf (Ralf's Omega, fondly named after him) for a couple of weeks but back to business this weekend.

I have decided (stupidly maybe) that I am going to fix Ralf and put him back on the road as opposed to practising surgery on him and then scrapping him.

I'm still going to practise the main jobs I want to do (CC Gaskets, Cambelt change, HG Gasket, brakes etc) but I'm going to be spending a bit more time on it and actually putting some money in to get this old boy (the car Ralf, not you  ;D) back on the road and then ship it on to a good home that will see out his twilight years. This may be insane.... comments welcome though.

Soooooooo down to business...

I am ordering HT leads from Eurocarparts (cheers RobG) but I need a good disspac. Anyone know of where I can lay my paws on one at a very healthy price?

Also, I know Ralf had the CC Gaskets done. However, there is some oil in the plug wells. It's really minimal (I'm thinking left over from the job) so I'm thinking that before I put the new leads and disspac on that I should get a wedge of tissue down there and clean up; sound good? or should I whip the cam covers off and redo the CC Gasket job? Would kill 2 birds with one stone I suppose.

Finally, I know I've asked a few breather Q's (sorry if it's getting tedious) but the 4 breather tubes that run to the breather box drivers side is no problem. Is there one the passenger side too???? I would check but both miggy's are at my mam's house so can't check.

Cheeeeeeers all :)

Twiglet may have a dispack. If he doesnt Im sure someone will.
PersonallyI would get what oil out you can with a tissue, then remove the plugs and whats left will run down into the bores.wont do any harm as long as there isnt much of it.Then if you have a torque wrench which goes down to 8nm,check the camcovers have been torqued to 8nm and no more.feel round the back of the covers (awkward on the pas side as always) to get an idea if the half moons are sitting properly.
No breathers on the pass. side, just the 4 you have already done. :y

Those are the ones - 8 in each cam cover (I'm presuming you've taken the four out of the lower cam cover in that picture ;))

4 on each 'half' either side of the plugs, 16 in total from memory (which is why you get 16 little O-rings)..

I believe the key with the brake servo pipe is to ensure it's not rubbing on the aircon pipe next to it (I think that's where it rubs) - otherwise it rubs through and you end up having to get a whole new replacement pipe..
