electrical?
« on: 12 March 2012, 23:45:10 »

Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me. While driving down the road my driver's door suddenly pops open and my sunroof has stopped working for no apparent reason. It has been suggested that there may be a fault with the airbag sensors.Could this be the case and is there any way of solving the problem?

Well, the door can't be opened electrically, only locked or unlocked, so a fault with the door lock mechanism is the most likely cause there.

The sunroof has no connection to the airbag system so it won't be an airbag sensor. Most likely the switch has become loose and is making contact causing erratic opening of the roof.

The door is likely a faulty mechanism - get one from one of the breakers here, the unit is pretty reliable, rather than buy new. Assuming lubing doesn't resolve it.

Sunroof - in first instance, perform the reset procedure thats in your glovebox user manual, see if that helps :y

I have reset the sunroof and spray greased door latch as suggested by The Boy , the sunroof is working fine now but will have to wait to see if the door pops open while driving. Thanks very much for the help

My dad has just recently suffered the same problem.  James (Aka Twiglet), diagnosed the problem as a faulty lock mech. He kindly popped over to my dads and sorted it with a replacement :y

No reported problems since ;)

I had a faulty lock cause the door to pop open a few times, eventually it failed completely and the door wouldnt latch. Had a fun drive home from work holding the door closed. You can try greasing the lock but it didnt work for me and I had to replace it.
