On the Eve of the latest budget statement I would like to express my gratitude to various chancellors over the years for their policy of loading tax onto the price of fuel (85% of a gallon was tax at one point if I remember correctly).

Also thank you to Lehmann Brothers, AIG, RBS and others in the banking industry for playing monopoly with the funds entrusted to them by their customers which helped create a sub-prime mortgage industry and ultimately caused the sorry financial state of ours and other countries resulting in increasing prices and no pay rises over the past few years.

Both of these factors have now resulted in my beloved Mig being reduced to holiday and Sunday duties only. The cost of fuel and the lack of good mpg really cannot be justified any more.

On the plus side, my daily drive now uses £55 of fuel every 2 weeks as opposed to the previous £85 per week and I keep the miles down on the Mig. Also the cost saving in fuel has just paid for said daily drive in 2 months.

I know the feeling. I'm still on my first tank of gogo in the Mig because I can't drive it all the time. After the mig the Ibiza is like a bean can. Don't get me wrong it's only 18 months old and screwed together really well but then it has to be. The rides bone jarring hard and the road noise is terrible............ It does do 68 MPG though and I've averaged 65 over a tank as well. £30 quid a year to tax as well. Still a bag of Sh*t I hate small cars

omegas are not cheap to run.. even with lpg.. and their parts are not cheap here.. so I use it once or twice a week..
 
and not easy to find a parking place either

Take a look at the VW UP 2 door. Huge head and leg room - I am 6ft 6in and no problem at all.

me too dont think i would keep my girl if i had to ride her to work everyday i do get her out once twice a week just to rub over her curves,but when i get in her the ride is amazing.

Agree with all that has been said, but why have the car if you are not going to use her on a regular basis, i have a daily commute of 50 miles mainly a and b roads at a steady 50mph and the mig is my daily driver its a 2001 2.2 and still returns a decent 31 mpg so roughly 8 quid a day to run her to work and back @ 140.9ppl
My other car is a 2011 mini cooper, a good car but not in the same class as the mig, the ride is harsh, there is no space and the boot is only big enough for a packet of crisps, so it now sits on the drive for swimbo to use during the day for her daily trips to the metocentre.

If things go according to plan,mine is also going to be relegated to occasional use within the next few weeks.

personally , I like to drive omega when traffic is relatively better and at least moving .. there is no joy for me using it in a rush hour start stop traffic unless I have to carry passengers .. job days, you are anyway in rush , need to find a parking place which is more suitable for a small car.. I used omega for 4-5 years as a daily commute car , but fuel costs and some extra requirements force me to buy a  secondary small car..which I like also..  and I find it more practical as I dont need to worry for omega..   lots of newbie woman drivers in job which uses their cars as crash test vehicle (one of them already hit omega and do everything not to pay)-

The only thing keeping mine on the road is the Gas and the fact I do around 5k a year otherwise it would be an old 306d Pug on used veg oil, just make sure you boot it every time you use it John

. . . . . .and there's me thinking I was almost alone . . . .

I'd love to drive the Mig every day - in fact I did for 2 years and if my daily drive was motorway or country lanes, then 25 - 30 mpg would be acceptable, but as I say, the combination of fuel prices and a daily crawl from traffic light to traffic light has reduced the Mig to driveway dressing for most of the week.
Still it's great when we do get to go out - reminds me of the Rush song "Red Barchetta" . . . . <fire up the willing engine responding with a roar, tyres spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime> . . . .

But for now it's back to the Sewing Machine engined Corsa . . . . .
