Big thanks to JamesV6CDX
« on: 09 April 2012, 09:57:13 »

Just wanted to say a huge big thank you again to James for helpng me out yesterday at yet again such short notice  :y

Had alot of work done yesterday inc new cambelt, water pump, full engine service and cam gaskets replaced. My mrs even got him to help diagnose and find a fault on her VW golf  ;D

I recommend James to anyone needing any work done soon. He is very friendly and thorough in his work, nothing seems to much trouble  :y

Thanks again James and well done  :y

It crossed my mind Dave, but I was kinda pushing on for home, as we were off out, bowling (at which I failed miserably!) :D

Glad all is well Paul :y - are you happy for me to share our findings on this 75k car, EG the cause of the lifter noise, etc? :y

In a nutshell, when I looked at the coolant issue last week or whenever it was, a tapping noise was heard from the lifters. It couldn't be attributed to any particular lifter, the noise seemed to move around, on both banks.

Upon stripping off the cam covers, the problem became clear. A huge build up of crud around the T Vents. Once I'd cleaned them off so I could see them, took the T vents out, they were totally blocked up!!

Lots of oil changing and regular breather cleaning needed on this one.

Internally, it was in a shocking state for a 75k engine. Probably dealer serviced :D

Good news is, with the T vents cleared, the engine is now quite and smooth as a mouse. :y

Cheers James  :y

Unfortunately I can't speak for the previous history as I was only given a service book with one stamp in it, but like you say it was quite shocking  :o

But rest assured I will have it serviced yearly and whatever needs doing will get done  :y

Thanks again tho mate for your time  :y
