The Government would rather spread the plague than be accused of leading the country into a double dip recession and the political damage that would do. They can now afford a dip in this quarter as long as they pull a stunt so we have growth in the third quarter of 2012. I've personally no doubt the collateral damage incurred by the Government's actions: woman badly burnt, people queuing for hours at petrol stations or not being able to get essential fuel at all and inflated fuel prices was a price well worth paying to keep the country out of a double-dip recession.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I agree with quite a bit of your post but I'm afraid that, no matter how you dress it up, the government cannot be blamed for the women getting burnt. She's the one who, very stupidly, chose to decant petrol in the kitchen near a gas hob ;)

And now the baggage handlers at Stansted airport have announced they are also going on strike - over the easter weekend of course. >:(
