Hi. hope someone can help me. i've read various things about the two camshaft sprocket bolts on my 2.2. its a 2003 car ,,,

does anyone know for sure wether they are stretch bolts or not. I'm rebuilding my engine after a timing belt failure recently have already replace all the inlet valves and had to extract 2 sheared off exhaust manifold bolts    

plus, if they are stretch bolts. anyone know where to get them ?

Ok to re-use as unlike head bolts they are not torqued to the "point of yield"

thanks       got another question though. i just seem to be hitting snag after snag at the moment. I put the cam sprockets back on, the cams already in place, i had made sure the cam bearings were well lubricated before I put them on ... but the inlet cam is very hard to turn. i can turn the exhaust cam ok and it operates all the valves ... but i have to put a lot more effort into turning the inlet cam ..  i've got the pistons about half way down the bores at the moment so nothings touching there and i havent got the timing belt on yet either till I know everything else is ok.. should this cam be harder to turn or is there possibly another problem causing it ?

Hi Brett,

Did the camshaft bearing caps all go back on in the same position and rotation? (be certain, this is key).

They will be slightly harder than usual after a rebuild if everything is dry, but not overly so.

i took the time when I took them off to make sure they went back on the way they came off ... and i put plenty oil over the bearings before I started tightening the bolts on the bearing caps .... the tighter I do the bolts the harder it becomes to turn the cam

You say the tighter you do the bolts..... confirm you are torquing to 8nm, evenly, and no more?

Where are you located? If you're local I'll pop over for a second opinion..

not local to you i'm afraid. I'd in central scotland  ... I'll check the tightness of the bolts again later when i get the chance. its hard for me to tell exactly how tight the bolts are as my torque wrench doesnt go as low as that ...
