Saab 3.0 turbo V6 vs Omega 3.0 N/A V6
« on: 12 June 2012, 20:48:22 »

I know this has been covered lots of times, but I can only find reference to the Saab 2.5 turbo V6 engine.

So my question is, why does the Saab 3.0turbo V6 engine have 200bhp - 7bhp less than the Omega 3.0 V6?
I was under the impression that it was the same engine, just with the addition of the Turbo.
So surely, this should be at least be 207bhp also (with increased torque)?

Maybe its got something to do with the Cams, which begs the question, what if the omega G cams (if that is what the difference is) where put into the Saab (plus a remap) - I wonder how much BHP and torque it would produce.
(Both cars and engines are cheaply available now, so may be a good project).

I just love the way the Omega looks (so would not want to buy a faster car) - just wish it had more torque.
So if the Saab engine 'slots straight in' then is is a potential option.

Could you not just put the turbo on the omega?

no, something to do with cooling and the pistons melting(i think), super charger is a goer though

Turbo engines normally run a lower compression ratio so not as straight forward as a quick bolt on job.

the last bolt on turbo adventure ended up with a failure and the owner go for a volvo.. ;D

so keep your money in the pocket and enjoy your car :y

ps: V6 engine have cooling issues and original turbo engines from another car will be cheaper..

Because the Saab is front wheel drive, which vastly restricts the amount of space available for the inlet gubbins the omega has. Vectra is down on power too. Compare the inlet on that to an omega. It's much simpler and restricted due to space. Plus it's a smaller engine bay anyway.

I guess Saab fitted a turbo in an attemp to make up the missing ponys. Maybe?

Or to find some extra torques ???

The SAAB had quite a bit more torque than the Omega.

I have a 3.0L TiD Saab 95. It's pretty nippy, but as I've only ever had petrol omegas can't really compare.

Off the mark I'd say the Omega is quicker if both cars are standard. Overtaking however the SAAB will simply leave the Omega, it has an extra 40nm of torque and it's so noticeable. If the SAAB was remapped it would pull away from the Omega from the start to be honest. The torque does make quite a bit of difference.
