2.2 tdc crankshaft pulley timing
« on: 13 June 2012, 20:01:10 »

Hello again so the news is the headgaskets changed, headbolts on torqued, everying back in but just waiting
for some new sproket bolts as one of them didnt wanna come off. Thanks to my mate who came round all day managed to get this far. Just wanted to know on a 2.2 16v, i take it tdc on the crankshaft pulley is when the notch on the pulley line up with that little spike thing and do vauxhall have a tool to take of cam sprocket bolts or
maybe these ones we got are just not that good as they dont seem to fit that good.

That tdc alignment sounds correct from what I recall of our 2.0, which is basically the same.

The only problem I remember with cam sprocket bolts was the missus not being quite strong enough to hold the spanner that was counterholding the cam (there are some flats or a hex section somewhere up near the front end of each cam IIRC) while I torqued the bolts.  ;D

Good luck with finishing it off.  :y

Where had the old gasket failed? Did you take any pics?

Yep cam sprocket bolts didnt wanna come off, got them off eventually so got new bolts from vx.The gasket had blown on the ring part of 4,head seemed to be in good condition so got the remaining water out from pistons clean head and everything else up and pressure checked, all was ok.Thanks to my mate again as this is the first time ive done a headgasket and hes done a few.Everythings back in torqued up ,belt on all finished. just stuck now as manifold got broke in post was shockingly packed no fragile no bubble wrap.they are sending another straight away got new cat section to put on as well so on stop now till mon.Have adjusted handbrake as well.Hopefully when manifold arrives we can finish it then begin ironing everything out.Sorry did have time to take any pics as was so busy getting it done.will get some when its fininshed.
