Stair lifts
« on: 26 June 2012, 18:26:47 »

Has anyone out there got any recent experience of stairlifts?

Looking at Acorn, Stannah, Bison etc - need a curved one for my aunt.

New price from Acorn is £4995 - ebay £2500 to £3995  for Bison

My father has Acorn which is reliable but £4995 is a bit hefty.

If there is a curve in the stairs, it makes them considerably more expensive!

Stannah are not cheap, but appear to be fairly well built and reliable

Can you get the council to install one?

We did. They put in a lift as the stairs has a dog leg. Has been a godsend to both rellies.

Never accept the initial asking price. The Acorn guy dropped the price to £1700........but we ended up paying £1300 for an identical one from Age Concern, complete with three year warranty and 365/24/7 call out.

Arm yourself with plenty of quotes. :y

My Mum has had an Acorn one fitted, the first quote was frightening and she turned it down.
They strangely found a demonstration one that fitted perfectly for just under £3000.
Don't accept the first quote..... its a buyers market :y

It was for a straight one, but all they do is bolt extensions to the track. They changed the bottom of Mum's for a folding bit because it was right by the front door, so the curve shoudn't be a problem.....

thanks all - my aunt insisting on a new one not recon - so fair enough. Further complication is width of stairs - very narrow at her house so had to go for single track Acorn where chair sits on rack as opposed to others where chair sits outside of a double track. Got them down to £4200, Stannah wanted £5k for a curved as starting price.

Had to sort urgently.
