4 pot misfire ...advice please
« on: 25 April 2013, 19:20:03 »

hi guys been trying to sort out an local old fellas 03 plate 2.2 petrol omega.

Feels down on power & hesitant with a intermittant misfire with EML on .

First job was a cam cover gasket change as plug wells were full of oil & a breather clean

There also seems to be an intermittant quite audible  "clicking " noise from around the top of the engine /coil pack area  a bit like it would sound

when HT is shorting somewhere .This" clicking" goes faster & slower with engine speed  Could this noise be from a defective injector?

codes read  P 0170  & P 0302.  Then cleared these  . .   EML no longer on but after a short trip returned .

Replaced spark plugs  . .  still the same .

Replaced coil pack as No. 2 pot coil showed signs of rust etc. underneath .Rubber spark plug connector was also split

Re cleared codes . . EML out  . . . but came on again after a short trip.

Same 2 codes keep re appearing  . . 0170   fuel trim malfunction  & 0302  cylinder 2 misfire detected .

Owner says car has not felt the same since he had a local garage replace the cam belt & water pump .

Any ideas where to look next  :-\ :-\ :-\

TIA      Al  :y

Just spoken to the owner on the phone.   He now  says the car was "OK" when he first got it back from having the the belt & W pump done for a

week or so  . But then started being down on power & hesitant .

Car ticks over at a really steady 850 rpm but will then sound like it is missing & revs drop slightly for a split second & then return to a steady

850 rpm . When this occurs the EML will come on & stay on until codes are cleared .

If timing was out ,would only N0. 2 pot show a detected misfire ? or would it show on all pots? :-\ :-\

Note:  garage that done the  previous work must be right muppets if the state of the original cam cover gasket is anything to go by. Was in several

pieces & stuck back with what looked like a whole tube of black sealant  . May not have been them of course  but owner has been taking

the car to them for over 2 years  ::) ::) ::)

4-pot should be around 700-725rpm steady
