Joking aside mate, it will be the heat that's making the plastic try and return to it's original moulded shape.  It's a technique that's actually used in bodyshops.  :y

Just don't go and try "turbo boosting" over the top of any 38t wagons in your way or you will have an even bigger dent in the front one. ;D

Could air be getting in behind when driven, helping it along?

Have not driven it since, so no.  :)
