Should the top radiator hose on the car be hard after driving the car for a while?

It will pressurise, but if its absolutely rock hard, thats not good.

Any other symptoms?

There is alot of pressure in it but its not rock hard. Was just wondering if this is normal. There are no other symptoms apart from the hbv needing replaced. (got it in the boot just not had a chance to fit yet)
