AFAIK Any disconnection or connection of gas supply must be carried out by a Gas Safe engineer. This will include a leak test before and after the work and a cert to show the work was done competently ....

I'd always understood that you could do what you want on your gas system as long as it wasn't for reward, ie you couldn't charge your mate to work on his gas system ........  :-\ :-\ :-\

Not that I've ever had need to do much gas work, but I've always do it myself. ....... tested with a match afterwards!  ::) ::) ::)

only kidding!  ;) ;) ;) :y

I use a lighter to test the joint for leaks

And i'm not kidding  ;D

lol that reminds me of the only fools and horse sketch when the van stops and won't start and one of them is under the bonnet checking too see if any fuel is coming through :y

 ;D ;D

Seriously though, to get gas to go bang you have to get the right gas / air mixture.
45 / 55 % iirc  :-\

As long as the leaking gas is under mains (after the meter) presure, all you will get is a very small blue flame from where the leak is  ;)

I must admit, the first time I saw a gas fitter do that in my house I didn't know whether to run or give him a dry slap until he explaned it all to me  ;D

Gas / Air mixture - bang if methane (CH4) ~4% to 14% roughly,
Hydrogen is worse ~3% to 85% roughly
can't remember the exact numbers, as am not at my desk

no alcohol for the next three weeks or so, as am in warmer climes, 45  C in shade, ground temp 34 c @ 0200 in morning.
Aslo desk is ~ 2600 miles away at the moment.
Anyway whats wrong with sniffing gas - doesn't make a mess like you get with evostick!

Little island 1/2 way Qatar and Iran
mostly indian out here ( the local fuzzy wuzzies - don't like to work - keep in their offices)
So food is 'proper' indian for brakfast , lunch, dinner , --Not the English Indian we get in civilisation(uk),

Am assuming that when get weighed in for the chopper that will have increased somewhat from the 56 kgs when came out here last week,
but the end/return this visit is getting closer ( but can't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet) -
still wiring up before I put a fire in the units ( incinerator!  to burn off the leftovers from the canteen!)
