dell
« on: 17 February 2013, 18:47:49 »

Evening, I posted a thread a while back reference upgrading the ram on my dell 620. I purchased a 2gb and went to install it today. On opening the box it turns out to only have two slots and already had 512k in each slot. I removed one of the 512 ram and put in the 2gb. On starting up the box just bleeped several times and would not do anything else. I removed it and tried again with the same response. I then removed it and replace it with my 512 ram and everything went back to normal.

My question is one is the 2gb no good or 2 is it the fact iam trying to put 2gb with 512k together.

Any help please

I assume thats a Dell desktop inspirion 620?

And assuming it is and you bought one of these...

2 GB Memory Module  - DDR3-1333 UDIMM 1RX8 Non-ECC

Remove the 512 and put only the 2GB in ..... the combination will be upsetting it  :y

This is what I bought as it looked to be the correct one.

The machine in my ebay advert is my desktop. So unless ram is faulty or will not talk to my other ram I cannot see why it does not work.

As Taxi Driver said just remove both the 512s and fit the 2x 2GBs in the 2 slots, should work. Make sure you fit it gently but firmly and get it the right way up.  I would be very wary about buying recon memory though, make sure after fitting  you leave it 24 hours running memtest86 or similar.  You will be lucky if the 2 are a matched pair.  Beeping means your motherborad doesn't like it.  Have you looked at crucial and run their system scanner www.crucial.com?  I don't think their new memory will be much more expensive, may be cheaper even.
