my sisters old n reg mondeo v6 was running sluggishly so i took a look and nearly all the wires to the coil pack, ecu, throttle body, egr valve etc etc had cracked and in some were just bare wires even the injector rail wires. i taped as amny up as possible but am i right in thinking thats not got a hope in hell of ever passing another mot?

Unless you really want her to get another car , in which case, yes it's doomed and she needs to get shot really soon

Seriously though, I believe it is only a real concern if it touches anything that moves like the aux belt, or anything exceptionally hot like the exhaust, obvious bare wires are likely to be frowned on as well.

Seeing this a lot on mid to late 90's Fords, a common issue particularly on the engine looms.

It often results in a scrap car and if you go to the breakers for a new loom all you will find is vehicles with the same issue.

Also seena  few go up in smoke due to it.

And yes, it is an issue as the engine vibrations results in shorting wires!

When you say sluggish, does the performance have an extra kick around 4000rpm? If not the IMRC is probably not working. Similar thing to the multi ram on an Omega V6 but a lot less reliable.

Mate of mine has a couple of Scorpio Ultimas where the looms have disintegrated. Wiring loom on those runs down the centre of the "V" and down the top of the auto gearbox apparently. He reckons engine and box out job to replace it and currently both engine and gearbox electrics are screwed meaning an otherwise decent car (if you like that sort of thing!) is completely immobile pending a lot of rewiring work.

and earlier 90s Vauxhalls  . Crap wiring, going brittle etc, was the reason many Senators/Carltons, especially where extra relays etc were put into the start inhibit loom for alarms, wouldn't start on the key ...... just not enough voltage by the time it got to the starter.

id say the sluggishness is a wiring problem as it drove great after i changed the plugs on sunday then she says yesterday it was missing and sluggish, the wring loom for the coil pack is shot so could be that shorting out
